Newer Version of the Logo:

This is the draft logo/title for the conference, courtesy of John, Steve, a focus group of students from Steve's campus at the Univ of Idaho, Abby, and Heather. Please add your thoughts/comments below:
- Deb: This is Great! My only concern is that when googled it comes up with a student organization that has some similarities with ours - maybe you have thought of this and are aware of it. Is there a synonym for Impact we could use??? Or another single word that sums up what we are about? Like Connect, or Change, or Action, .....
See canadian org info below:
"Impact is a non-profit, student-run organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and leadership in Canada. Impact exemplifies leadership in entrepreneurship by connecting people, knowledge and ideas, recognizing success, and providing inspiration to leaders at every stage of their development. www.impact.org
Canada's Largest Student-Run Entrepreneurship Organization

- Heather: Great point Deb...duly noted. Should have Googled further... Other thoughts?
- Steph R: I'm doubtful that we'll find any title (especially a snappy one word title) that isn't in use by some organization somewhere. And i think we are 1) in a different country 2) have a substantially different mission than that org. Could we call it Impact'08 in order to differentiate ourselves a bit more?
- Still Steph: I'm not the biggest fan of the sub-heading... i think it narrows us too much to the social/service rather than political (or any other) 'side' of student engagement. Of course, i don't have a good substitute suggestion! Let me think on it and come back again later.
- Angeline: Just a note that there are a quite a few organizations in the US with the name "Impact". Again, I'm not sure how relevant any of them are to what our conference is trying to do.
- Tthere is another conference callled "The National Impact Conference" that is a ministry conference for African-American youth leaders. I'm not sure how this would affect the name of our conference.
- There is also an organization for people with disabilities called Impact that is based in Illinois.
- There is another organization called IMPACT that is a California statewide all-volunteer, non-profit organization of parents, teachers and professionals serving deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Their conference is called the IMPACT Conference.
- There is also an arts festival in New York called IMPACT
- I think it's a great looking logo, but I think it's a little dark. Can we play around with color options a little? and the only other thing is really a personal preference that I try to push everywhere I go.... "&" instead of "and"... that might even help us, if we do some shifting, get it to 2 lines.... the last part kind of is out there on it's own at this point. - Sean
- Is the second version of the logo any better, folks? (Heather)
- Hi All, Abby here. I have four things to add:
- Frankly, I'm not sure that using the word "impact" is a problem. I think that people will talk about a "national student conference" - and our URL is campusconference.org, so that's not promoting the use of "impact" either. I do, however, think it's catchy when you see it all spelled out with the tagline and everything, so I think we should go with it.
- Second, Steph has a good point about the tagline lacking some overtly politicial connotation. However, I don't think there's a lot of alternatives. Using the word "engagement" is out, so is "public work." The ONLY alternative I think we DO have is to say: National Student Conference on Service, Advocacy and Social Action.
- Third, I don't think the color matters much, as long as it's not a pastel and can reproduce well. I suggest the darker color b/c if we copy or print things in black and white, which we'll likely do, our logo won't be that much different and it will photocopy well.
- Last, adding the " '08" to the logo implies 2008 election to me. As a result, it implies that we want to turn students out to impact the 2008 election. While I know that the date will change every year ('09, '10, etc.), does it matter if others do not? I would not want students to think that the conference is only about the 2008 election. This is only an issue if someplace the conference name didn't include the full tagline. Is my thinking too influenced by living inside the beltway on this one???
- OK, how about the newer version of the logo? (Heather)
Steph: Yes, i think you ARE too influenced by living inside the beltway ;) Seriously, i don't think that's too much of a concern... but I ran it by Ranjit and he pointed out that by calling it Impact '08 we'd be semi-committing ourselves to calling it that every year. Which is a good point. If we want to keep the name next year, THEN it can be Impact '09, and so on. I love the new tagline - good call, Abby - and i do like the colour.
Could we possibly mock it up with the tagline under the name? I presume we would be using it in that format the majority of a time we're using it as a logo.
Actually, the folks working on this liked it to the side. I tend to agree -- it looks a little edgier and better compliments the chalky "IMPACT" font when it's on the side. (Heather C)
I like it! Great job to all who crafted it. I defintely agree with the improvements from 1 to 3. Personally, I vote for the tagline to the side. HPG
